The Santa Monica College Corsairs (5-2-4) beat the Bakersfield College Renegades (1-5) in a defensive standoff with Corsairs forward Meg Pierce scoring the only goal in the opening minutes of the game at home Tuesday afternoon.
Aaron Benditson, Head Coach of the Santa Monica College Corsairs Women’s Soccer team, was happy that they won the game.
“It was a weird game and had a weird rhythm tempo to it but you know what, we found a way to win and that’s what good teams do,” said Benditson. “You are not always going to play your best soccer or your most concentrated soccer every time you get out on the field so it was nice to win a game and still not play our best.”
Benditson thought that goalkeeper Cindy Godina and defender Briana Mackey played a good game to shut out the Renegades.
“Briana had a fantastic game along with our goalkeeper,” said Benditson. “There’s always two or three saves that your keeper is going to have to come up for you guys and I give credit to our goalkeeper, she did that today. She was surefooted with her decision making and she was very much a part of our success today.”
Next game for the Corsairs is at home Friday against Glendale at 5:00 p.m.
