A Santa Monica couple was arrested and charged with domestic violence on Saturday, June 8 after neighbors called police after they heard their heated argument begin to escalate.
At 6:29 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 2200 block of Oak Street in order to investigate a domestic disturbance.
Neighbors had reported that they had heard a couple engaged in a loud and heated argument.
When the officers arrived they too heard the yelling and then saw a man holding a blue metal broom handle and yelling at a woman who was yelling angrily back at him.
The officers ordered the man to drop the broom handle and lay down on the floor.
For safety purposes the officers then handcuffed this individual.
The officers then spoke with the woman.
She told them that the man was her boyfriend and she had recently discovered that he had been cheating on her, so she had arrived at his residence that morning and had wanted to enter in order to see if the other woman who was inside.
The boyfriend had refused her entry, and a physical altercation had ensued.
Both parties had sustained minor injuries as a result.
The officers could not determine who was the primary aggressor, so they arrested them both, and this 43-year-old woman, and 44-year-old man were charged with domestic violence.
No bail was reported as being posted.
