One Week Left To Submit New SMMUSD Logo Designs:

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is looking to update its logo.

One week remains before submissions close for the Santa Monica Unified School District’s new logo competition.

The SMMUSD launched the competition to develop an updated district logo to go along with a branding strategy that will communicate the core values of the organization.

SMMUSD is calling on all members of the community to submit original logo designs. Submissions must be original and can be created using any medium except for photography. The logo should be simple, easily replicable, and memorable.

All logo submissions should embody SMMUSD’s mission statement: Extraordinary achievement for all students while simultaneously closing the achievement gap.  The district’s core values are:

— Diversity

— Arts and academics

— Whole child: each child deserves to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged

— Community, collaboration, forward thinking, and engagement

Logos must be submitted in the box on the attached form. Submissions are due to the Superintendent’s Office no later than Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.  Selected concepts will be refined and the winner will be announced in February 2014.

Submissions should be dropped off or mailed to the SMMUSD District Office at 1651 16th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404, Attention: Sarah Wahrenbrock, Assistant to the Superintendent.

A volunteer panel of graphic design experts has been selected to judge the submissions and be responsible for refining the selected concepts for further evaluation.

The panel members are: Josh Freeman (FreeAssociates), Terry Graboski (Beck & Graboski Design Office), Ni Glynn (Greenmount Digital), Diane Kuntz (Diane Kuntz Design Studio), Susanne Manheimer (Susanne Manheimer Design), Joven Orozco (WeTheCreative), and Bea Pomasanoff (freelance).

The winner of the logo competition will have his/her name featured prominently on materials related to the SMMUSD rebranding process and in a press release.

Note that the winning logo may be modified to integrate successfully with its many applications and uses.
