Santa Monica will celebrate Small Business Day this Saturday, Nov. 30. Local businesses all over Los Angeles will participate. Since the holidays are so close, the Pico Improvement Organization has a special event.
The 4th annual Pico Holiday Art Walk will be presented in conjunction with Small Business Day and Buy Local Santa Monica.
Randy Ball of Blue 7 Gallery (3129 Pico Boulevard) has been helping to produce the annual Art Walk since its inception.
“The best part about the event is showcasing the creativity of artists that make something out of their hearts and minds for us to see and appreciate,” Ball said.
The Art Walk will run from 11 am to 9 pm at the east end of Pico Boulevard and include more than 15 merchants participating in the event and offering special promotional discounts.
It’s a great chance to start holiday shopping while enjoying the festivities.
Head to Kronovet Realty (3019 Pico Boulevard) for a sitting with Santa Claus – and don’t forget your camera for that great photo op for your holiday cards.
Many venues will offer treats and refreshments. Some will present musical performances, like Upper West Restaurant (3321 Pico Boulevard), which will showcase the art of Carol Surface and Country Legends Holiday Hour from 6:30 pm to 8 pm with an extended happy hour until 8 pm. Visit theupperwest.com.
The Blue 7 Gallery will feature a group show entitled “An Artistic View of Tools.”
“Our group show is art that depicts tools,” Ball said. “As far back as ancient Egypt, tools have appeared in sculpture, murals, photography, and other media. Tools are an extension of our nervous system and play a huge part in the advance of civilization throughout the centuries. In modern society, we still use variations of many prehistoric tools.”
The artist reception will run from 6 pm to 9 pm. Visit blue7gallery.com.
Artist Chris Galligan, owner of Galligan Living Studio & Gallery (3018 Pico Boulevard), will be holding his own event.
“We will be pouring my wine brand ‘Four Paws and a Tail’ along with serving some nibbles,” Galligan said. “I’ll have some great gift ideas just in time for the holidays… 50 percent off a custom pet portrait – as well as 50 percent off in the Gallery.” Visit galliganliving.com.
McCabe’s will also be open, and the evening show (7:30 pm/$24.50) will feature Crystal Bowersox of “American Idol” fame. Visit mccabes.com.
Additional venues that will be participating are: Acapillow, Artesanias Oaxaquenas, Church of Type, Kronovet Realty, Lares, Reclaimed Frame, T. Heritage, UnUrban Coffee House, Historia, and more.
On the day of the Art Walk – Saturday, Nov. 30 – stop into Blue 7 Gallery or Kronovet Realty to pick up a flyer that will offer detailed information on each event and venue hours for the day’s events. Some businesses will be open from 11 am to 5 pm. Others will offer events that will run from 3 pm to 9 pm.
