Argentinian Artist Javier De Aubeyzon To Exhibit Works In Santa Monica:

Argentinian artist Javier De Aubeyzon will be celebrated in a solo exhibition dubbed “Environmentalism-O” at FABstudio Gallery in Santa Monica on Thursday, Dec. 4. The event, taking place from 5-9 pm, will feature 10 original oil paintings on canvas depicting landscapes and cityscapes.

An environmental artist, De Aubeyzon chose to focus on the dangers of pollution and the tragic side effects of technological advancements on the world.

“Recently I’ve found myself merging the two opposing themes I’ve worked on for years – Urban Industrial Landscapes and Natural Environment Landscapes,” said De Aubeyzon.

Art has always been part of De Aubeyzon’s life.

“As a child, I already had a tendency to teach myself how to draw,” he said. “Later on, after graduating from architecture school, I began to work in the graphics department for an important firm in Buenos Aires. It was during that experience that I decided to begin painting professionally.”

De Aubeyzon said he first sketches his idea on paper, which eventually evolves into the final product.

“I use a grid system to transpose the idea from initial sketch to canvas,” he said. “I first work on the background details and eventually finish perfecting the architectural elements.

“One day they built a gigantic metal sculpture in one of Buenos Aires’ most beautiful parks, ‘La Floralis Generica’ which opens during the day and closes at night.

“I found something moving about this sculpture… between its chrome texture and it’s strange design… as if it were opening to the universe calling for help. In these architectural elements, I found potential to create dream-like and futuristic images.”

This is a “leave-no-trace” environmentally concerned event and guests should bring their own wine glass to the opening. Wine and appetizers are sponsored by Terrazas de los Andes and Ushuaia Argentine Restaurant.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit Surfrider, which is dedicated to protecting oceans, waves, and beaches (surfrider.org).

On Saturday, Dec. 6, an art discussion with the artist will take place from 5-6:30 pm.
