A 57-year-old homeless woman was arrested on Friday, Nov. 25, after trying to stab an employee and security staff member at St. Monica’s Catholic Community with a pair of scissors.
At 2 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to attend to a report of an alleged assault at the property, located at 1039 Seventh St. Upon arrival the officers detained the suspect (a woman) and then spoke with the victim who was employed as a teacher at the facility.
The officers learned that the victim had entered the church and had discovered that the suspect was standing inside the church. The victim said that the suspect had immediately yelled, “get out of my church, you are poisoning people!”
The victim added that she had at that moment left the church in order to locate security staff and that after she had done that she had returned to the church with security staff to discover that the suspect was in the process of writing in a church book that was situated near the altar.
The security staff member had then asked the suspect to please leave the church but the suspect refused and started to yell at the security staff member as he had attempted to call the police.
The officers were then told that the suspect had produced a pair of scissors and had made jabbing motions at the security staff member, but the security staff member had managed to avoid the stabbing attempts and had retreated from the building.
The officers recovered a four-inch pair of scissors from the suspect’s coat pocket and arrested this homeless woman and charged her with assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.
