Fireside Season Starts At The Miles Playhouse:

The best of contemporary music, opera, jazz, dance, puppetry, poetry, beat-boxing, a capella singing, and more will be on display in Santa Monica for a six-week stretch beginning today, Jan. 20, as the Miles Memorial Playhouse has scheduled its Third Annual Fireside Season featuring 13 unique events and performances at its fireplace through Feb. 25.

Patrons will be able to enjoy the a different genre of music on any given night in the comfort of a couch, coffee table, and candles, all of which will replace the risers that usually define the seating area. Each show can be taken in with organic coffee, tea, juice, and a pastry bar, all of which are available inside the open hall.

Opening this year’s Fireside Season tonight, is the Golden State Pops Orchestra, a nine-piece classical ensemble. The following day, the Fireside Season continues with George Watsky, a spoken-word performer who has gained attention on YouTube.

Diana Wyenn and Brianna Martin bring their sultry music to The Miles on Jan. 27, while the following week will highlight contemporary music with David Poe, Amy Raasch, and Brendan Hines on Feb. 4.

For the younger audiences, The Miles scheduled a pair of children’s shows, including the Marionette Matinee by Franklin Haynes on Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. and the Valentines Themed Dances with Hart Pulse Dance Company on Feb. 11.

On Feb. 17, Holly Rothschild and String Theory will be providing a special performance.

The complete list of performances may be found at www.fireside.milesplayhouse.org; reservations may also be made online.

The Miles also announced non-matinee performances will start at 8 p.m., with the final curtain at 10 p.m.; doors open at 7:15 p.m. for evening performances. For the matinee performance on Jan. 28, doors open at 10:30 a.m.

All performances are “youth-friendly,” according to The Miles, and all coffee, tea, beverages, and food are available by suggested donation.

The Fireside Season is sponsored by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division and supported with donations by Panera Bread and Whole Foods.
