Metro Begins Full Closure Of 14th Street At Colorado In Santa Monica:

For the next two weeks, it might be a good idea to avoid Colorado Avenue between 14th Street and downtown Santa Monica, as the Expo Line’s second phase expansion now claims two closed intersections to install rail for the new Metro train service.

With eastbound Colorado at 4th St. already out of commission to make way for the Expo Line terminus station, Metro officials have officially shut down 14th Street at Colorado in order to install ground-level rail.

The full street closure is officially underway, with workers taking over 14th and Colorado as of 1 am on Tuesday, July 22 and continuing in 24-hour work cycles through 6 am on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

With the closure, through traffic will be prohibited at the intersection during the two-week closure. There will be electronic message boards, directional signs, and flaggers to re-direct traffic around the construction zone. However, local traffic will be allowed to pass at all times throughout the construction period.

Heavy work at the construction site will only take place between 8 am and 10 pm.

Metro stated it would monitor noise levels at all times “to ensure work is performed within the necessary compliance levels.”

On that note, sound blankets would be installed if it would help mitigate noise impacts on the surrounding community.

Work crews will also be watering down the work area to minimize dust levels and clean up after debris on an as-needed basis. Metro will also monitor the air during construction.

Certain parking restrictions will also be in place in the area immediately surrounding the construction site. Accordingly, pay attention to signage and postings in the area advising drivers of the parking restrictions.
