If you happen to see a life-sized rhinoceros with golden horns, coated in one thousand real one-dollar bills on the streets of L.A. don’t be alarmed. The rhino is a sculpture called Rhinos Don’t Grow on Trees, by L.A. urban artist, MIDAS that is part of a six-month exhibition titled Funny Zoo L.A.

The annual Nick Gabaldón Day was held on Santa Monica’s Bay Street Beach at Tower 20 Saturday, with local environmental advocate Heal the Bay helping to celebrate Los Angeles’ diverse community of ocean lovers. A coalition of groups organized the day as a salute to Nick Gabaldón, a 1950s waterman of African American and Latino heritage, known as L.A.’s first surfer of color.

The Main Speaker On Thursday, June 2, at 12:50 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Sears Department Store, located at 302 Colorado Ave. in order to investigate a report of a theft involving a set of loudspeakers. When the officers arrived at the location they spoke with the loss prevention agents from Sears who told them that a man had entered the store, picked up the loudspeakers and run out of the store without paying for them. The loss prevention agents gave the officers a detailed description of the suspect and the officers went in search of this man.
