Gebert Gallery In Venice Opens ‘Past/Present’ Exhibit By Betty Gold Today:

Painter and sculptor Betty Gold cross-pollinates dexterity and design for her upcoming retrospective show “Past/Present” at Gebert Gallery in Venice.

“Past/Present” has its opening reception today, Nov. 5. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will be on display until Dec. 13, 2011.

Gold has taken science as the launching point for her geometrical sculptures.

Heuristically merging the precision of cubism and algorithm in her latest opulent collection, Gold’s atmospherics describe a bridge between art and science, further exploring sensuality, while never losing sight of science’s observed happenings.

The retrospective features Betty’s sculptures and paintings from the late 1970’s through the 1990’s, as well as some more recent work.

Many of these bronze sculptures have not been seen since Betty’s retrospective museum exhibition in Mallorca, Spain in 2005.

Describing her work as “holistic sculptures,” the artist seeks to demonstrate “the philosophical belief that the universe, especially living nature, is seen in terms of interacting wholes that are greater than the sum of their parts.”

According to Melinda Wortz, of the Los Angeles Art News, “Her smaller pieces are painted with the lively surface patterns reminiscent of Picasso’s stippled Absinthe Glass as well as some tribal motifs. Gold executes the work entirely herself.”

These mercurial designs present a haunting and fleeting permanence.

Nature is molded into a vision, which lingers on the border of mathematical art and recreates a bucolic vision in a modern and elegant way. It is precision brought to life, a masterful work of fashion-conscious modernity.

Gold was born in Austin, Texas in 1935. She attended the University of Texas with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Art History.

She studied under the apprenticeship of Octavio Medillan in Dallas, Texas.

Since then, her work has become a celebrated fixture for its artfully curated collection seducing, and transforming spaces.

Gold is one of today’s most renowned artists, and has been the focus of features in countless publications, gaining her notoriety and global recognition. Gold caters to an echelon of clientele with a discerning palette, who have a flair for the sophisticated and ravishing.
